i just got my jeep sanded down yesterday, and will be spraying primer tomorrow, for the most part i sanded it to bare metal or the factory primer, but there is still some paint showing in random spots(no clear coat tho) the jeep is 23yrs old(cj7), will i have any problems if i spray the primer over some of the painted area? im gonnna use an epoxy primer since it resists moisture a little better. also, since i am basically teaching myself how to paint, should i have a fanned out spray and mist it over the area im primering? or should i have a smaller fanned out area, with a thicker coat going on? thanks, and feel free to give me any tips yal know when painting a vehicle.thanks guys, ill try and post some pics once i get it all sprayed

before you primer it all thats needed is the clear coat needs to be completely sanded off..also before primering/painting the surface needs to be cleaned with grease n wax remover(super clean) to make sure its all clean for a good surface..

ya, i know bout using the cleaner stuff, i gotta buy another gallon of it tomorrow tho, but the main thing that i wanted cleared up was if it would be alright to primer over the scuffed up paint without it peeling or flaking.

yea an epoxy primer should lock it down. Might wanna spray some self etch on the bare metal just to be on the safe side if its gonna be in just primer for a while

the parts with paint are going to be high, i would block it with some 180 just to eliminate some work in other stages.

just hit it w/ 3 heavy coats of urethane primer but b4 make sure there is NO surface rust. after those 3 heavy coats have dried block it smooth w/ 180. then reprime it again w/ 3 good coats then block it w/ 320 then wet sand block it w/ 600, clean it tack it seal it paint it clear it buff it done.
