Depends on whether or not you want to be smog legal. If you are running carbs, then either would work well , but harder to pass emmisions. If you are running fuel injection, you will have to have a wiring harness adapted. Fuel injection will make passing emmisions easier. Either way you go you have to think of radiator, accessories, hood clearance, headers, rear-end, drive shaft length, etc. Before I decided to not finish my truck, I had an LT-1 350 out of a Z28 in my framerails. I was going to use an S-10 wiring harness and fusebox to completely rewire the truck and build a stand alone harness to run the ecu, etc. My biggest issue was finding D-port headers that would work in the space and not break the bank. The LT-1 fits under the stock hood with the rockers laying hard and makes close to 300 hp without any mods. With minor computer enhancements and headers it could easily 320-350. With OBD-1 LT-1's, you can use a computer program to turn different things on and off and set your shift points (auto 4L60E), or even run a 5 or 6 speed. I had a limited slip Ford 9" (same bolt pattern) with 20x10 rear wheels to hook it to the street.
