POR15 makes high temp paint, so does Dupont now, and I believe a few other companies like Omni do as well. The POR15 will brush on, you dont have to spray it with a gun, and it still lays pretty flat. Your motor doesnt have to look perfectly flat anyway. But Dupont also makes high temp paint that you have to spray on and reduce and what not. POR15 is just straight out of the can.

hey doug, isnt that POR15 self leveling, so that it does lay flat and so u dont see brush marks?

I just prepped, then primed, then base-cleared mine. I messed up and painted it silver though. The clear has started to yellow some on the head from the heat. Probably if you painted it a darker color you would not notice the yellowing of the clear as bad. I have not had any problems with it chipping or flaking off yet.

Yea, it is self leveling. You can spread it on with a brush and it still looks great. It comes out very nice actually. If I had some pictures I would show you them but we jsut did my buddies full subframe, and control arms in his GTI in black POR15 brushed on and they look great.

How hot dose a engine block actually get on the outside? Shouldnt get over the water temp should it figure 300 at the max? Iv got a couple guys who want me to powdercoat their blocks but not till tihs winter.
