Hey guys I have an 82 2wd hilux that I am slowly working on. I promised myself that it would be running before the suspension is started.

My problem is that I can pump the gas to fill the carb and start it. it will stay running for about 5 - 10 seconds then die. When I push the gas pedal it bogs down the motor and dies. I recently replaced the carb with one from a working 86 that had electric choke. I have advanced the timing and idle. does anyone have any suggestions???

As already mentioned, fuel filter, or possibly fuel pump not pumping, accelerator pump in carb not pumping, air filter (if so equipped) plugged, choke flap closed. major vacuum leak somewhere, theres a few more ideas.
Good luck

Could be the floats moved and are stuck in one position.

Is the fuel filter filling with gas? Get you a soda bottle and cut the top off and fill with gas. Disconnect your fuel line at the filter and run an extended line into the bottle, crank the engine and see if its pulling any fuel. If its not, then its more than likely the pump has gone bad or you could have a bad line between the filter and the pump.

yes the filter is getting fuel and the filter is pumping gas. IDK if its the proper amount though.
