awhile ago a few people posted that theyve had some problems with their toyotas having starting problems. i was just wondering if any of you have figured it out.. i think ive narrowed it down to just being a bad starter/solenoid but dont wanna just go out and drop 70 bucks to find out thats not my problem.

send direct 12 volts to the starter its the black w/white tracer wire if the stater doesnt engage then thats the problem.

alright well it wasnt my damn starter.. so now ive got a brand new starter. the old one tested out bad anyways at the store. but my truck still wont start. i metered @ the battery and had 12v unplugged the wire from the starter and metered that and got 10-11v plugged it back in and metered the battery again while i turned the key and it still had 12 volts. the circuit opening relay clicks.. the starter relay clicks and whatever is in the engine bay clicks.. but the truck wont start. im lost as to what else i could look for. i stared at that haynes manual until my eyes hurt. anywhere else i could find some more schematics or the info to find out what stuff means on those schematics in the back of the haynes manuals?

My truck had the same problem. I wasnt getting enough voltage out of the wire that clip to the starter. Make sure you get 12 volts out of that wire also, not just the one that goes from the battery to the starter.

so what you do to fix it?

I was getting 8 volts out of that wire.I really didnt want to trace where the wire went and why it wasnt putting out 12 volts. So I just put in an relay, and I never had a problem since.
Just get an regular electronic relay (30/40 amp). The relay should have five terminals(30-85-86-87-87a), but you dont used 87a.

Hook up 30 to the positive side of the battery.

Ground 85.

put the wire that goes to the starter on terminal 86

and run the 87 terminal to the starter
