Its time I replaced the timing chain on my 22r due to the excessive noise its producing

What parts will I need i.e kit? what else should be replaced at the time?

And the related cost? Is it expensive?

Thanks

James

you need a timing chain, chain tensioner , some kits come with these and they are plastic so they don't have a really long life. Head gasket kit (you'll have all the neccessary gaskets to do the job and its cheaper than buying them individually. Check your water pump/timing case for wear, the chain has a tendancy to slap around and dig into the aluminum.

Should run about $120 - $150 pending on who you get your parts from.

also maybe an oil pan gasket....if there is one. i heard of people droping that pan off to change it out.

when the motor was built in my toyota, the guy used some type of poly carbon plastic or something like that....it is flexible and durable plastic tensioner so it will last a lot longer than the typical plastic kind that get brittle. the old tensioner that i had came out in 3 peices...one of which was in the oil pan. lol.

Good time to change to a LC double row kit, not cheap, but worth it!!

Double row is the way to go.
