how much does a big ass plate of steel like that usually cost? lol

i heard something about a marble table being good for welding on, maybe it has to do with being perfectly smooth/straight.. anyone know?

i made one out of 2x3 for almost $100...2 feet of ground w/ wheels to move it

I would make it out of some heavy tubing. It would keep weight and cost down a lil, and if it were a big sheet you would have a hard time clamping things down.

just go buy a 4x8ft sheet of 1/2" or 3/4" steel plate and then weld some 1/4" wall legs to it and you are gravy. as for clamping your frame to it you might as well just weld your work piece to the table so then you know it wont move.

true on both parts. but were i worked we had a few forklifts so moving tables wasnt an issue. you never had to worry bout the table not being able to support what you put on it.
