Won't start after head replacement

Replaced my cylinder head over the weekend, now the truck won't start. Everything is hooked up correctly and all I get now is a type of spinning sound when a turn the key. Doesn't even sound like it's trying to turn over.

I'm thinking it my be way out of time, but not sure.

What do I do? Can't stand not having my ride!

like it doesnt crank? all you get is a click noise when you turn the key? have you checked your battery?

was the timing set according to the book?

the person to talk to that could probably help you out would be Nook on here. that guy is very knowledgable about building toyota motors.

zombie is on top of things too. if all you get is a starter click tho, check the battery and the starter contacts.

It's more than a click, sounds like a spinning, like not engaging. I did get a back fire.

if it backfired then the distributor is 180 off. Get #1cyl to TDC, pullyour distributor out and relocate it so its points as close to #1 cyl.

timing chain is all good i presume?

If it spins over with no resistance, like it would if the spark plugs were out, I would look at either the valve adjustment being too tight, not letting the valve(s) close and letting the cylinder(s) build compression, or the timing chain not aligned correctly when it was put back together.
If it spins over with some resistance, has compression in other words, then as m_i_zombie said, check the distributor for being installed correctly.

If all goes well this weekend I,m gonna swap engines in another toy of mine, built a 22Rhybrid dual carbed, lumpy cammed, go fast sunnybeech, at least I hope so.

I thought the same thing, turned it 180, still nothing. Tried seeing if I had compression in #1 cylinder....doesn't seem to be........NOW WHAT?

Sounds like maybe the cam timing is off. Get #1 piston to top dead center (TDC) on compression stroke, timing mark on crank pully aligned with "0" on timing marker, then check camshaft alignment dowel for the upper gear, it should be just slightly left of straight up twelve oclock position, and distributor rotor should be pointing towards #1 spark plug wire terminal with cap in position, if those things are all in sync then it should run provided the valves are opening and closing and not held open from overtightening or bent.
