battery relocation...

Ok...I know a good bit of you guys have relocated your batteries to the bed or the rear frame clip & I was wondering how much of a pain in the ass this is?? I know Ill need some wire to run from the front to the rear & Ill also
need wire for the ground. Ive got a battery box & I was hoping that someone could post pics of what they have & some advice/tips on how this is done!! Ive got the 22re motor so there are more wires to worry about than
the 22r. So...fell free to post what you need & list anything else Ill need to get this done right! Donny

SMC - do you just have the plastic battery box? I'm hoping to do this relocation soon, but I think I need something a little more secure if I'm going to have the battery out in the bed.
I'd appreciate any pics or suggestions also...

The easist wat to do it is just run a small junction block so you can tie the new wire to where the old one was..

Where can I get a junction block from?? Ive heard people mention that before, but this is my first time doing this so Im kinda lost!!

when i relocated mine, this is what i did...i bought whats called a relocation terminal. basically its an insulated terminal that you can drill anywhere on your firewall or fenders....i put mine on the vertical metal just below the existing battery location so my wiring harness for the truck hooks up just like normal as if the battery were still in that spot. then i ran 4 ga. sterio wire (the kind you would use for an amp or something) from that terminal to my battery. i put the truck power (to the relocation terminal) on an 80 amp fuse close to the battery. you can just ground it to the frame at the rear of the truck as everything else as far as the body and block of the motor are all grounded from the frame. ill take pictures for you tonight. im at work so i cant really do it right this second.

Kick ass!! Thanks for all the info guys & pics would be so helpful to me. I mounted the battery in the bed today & I plan to run the wires tomorrow. I went by a stereo shop today & got some 4 guage amp wire & plan to use that for the ground & run from the battery to the front.

IMO 4 gauge is too small I used 2awg, which is much bigger, its more similar to 0 gauge. A starter can spike its power at like 300 amps, not figure that has to travel though 10 feet of wire, not 8" like before, so your going to have some power loss, and by bottle necking it with small wire might cause issues. I just ran my 2awg to the starter then rand a new 4 gauge wire to the main fuse panel. Then just grounded to the frame off the battery.

Not to step on any toes here, but a starter will never pull 300 amps! (unless it is bursting into flames and killing everyone within a 200 foot radius)!!!

Typical toyota starters, under full draw, will pull between 7-11 amps.

Mine pulls 7 amps.

4 ga wire is fine, although, when it comes to wiring, "the bigger the better" DOES apply, think of electricity as water in a pipe....the bigger the pipe, the easier the water flows.

so...does anybody have any pics to go along with what they are saying??
