I need to order my clutch and flywheel, and wanted some experienced opinions of what might work good for my app.
My application being 94 22re bored and stroked, lightweight crank, street performance head, stock injection and 5speed trans.

I was thinking of maybe a 12lb flywheel and a centerforce dual friction setup, but in this area i'm not that experienced. should i go w/ a heavier flywheel since my crank has been cut, or will the 12 be about right? Is centerforce the best brand to use, or should i go w/ zoom or the brand LCE sells? would the dual friction be too aggressive for my setup?

thanks.

My smog guy is serious about racing, and he swears against Centerforce. I asked him about it. He said he ran 3 and tore them up before swapping to something else.

for the last few years all i have heard is centerforce is crap. they brake easily and dont hold power worth a damn. heard good things about zoom and clutch masters though.

x3. thats all i have heard as well. I have been told that Competition Clutch makes a pretty nice one.

so what do you guys run? i'm thinkin seth runs an "mu" series from perfection. correct? how's that thing treat ya? zoom is made by perfection as well, its just their performance division. what are you guys using? I also found one from TRD, but it just a performance pressure plate with an OE disc. So if anyone has good stories, much appreciated.

I actually run a Napa brand clutch. Napa is the only company other than LC that makes a clutch for my truck, aside from some eBay knockoffs that I was reluctant to try out. The Napa clutch works, but it doesn't like the power my motor puts out. I'm not trying to say my motor is badass, but I think its aimed at the stock 90 HP at the flywheel. And when I smogged my truck I had them run it on the dyno and it made an even 100 at the wheels. So if I really try to get on it, it feels like it slips a little, and smells like it too. Also if I try to float it on an incline or anything it makes that same cool smell.

Next time I will probably try the LC unit. But at the time $90 sounded a lot better than $290. I was just trying ot get it on the road at that point.

So in conclusion, I don't think Napa brand clutches are geared towards anything much more than stock.

agreed. and perfection makes napa. i guess since everything else is lc i might as well get an lc clutch too.

May as well add my 2 cents worth, There are several brands to choose from, most are just OE replacements, some claim high performance, the limiting factor with performance clutches in the Toys is the hydraulics, they can only push so much pressure before they fail.
Personally I have the centerforce2 in one of my rigs, have had great results for many years, my other runs a LUK clutch, nothing more than an OE replacement, but stands up fine to the supercharged engine. I have ran the LUK behind a healthy 22R stroker, also with fine results.
The centerforce uses the weights to increase clamping force at higher RPM from the centrifigal force, so it can run lower pressure plate spring pressure.
A friend used one of LC performance clutches, it worked fine, BUT, had such heavy pedal pressure that it was not user friendly, especially for his wife to drive, plus in the year that it was in there he went through 3 slave cylinders and 1 clutch master cylinder,
Also Seth, for what its worth, the later Toys used the fixed length rod between the slave and the throwout arm, no adjustment other than pedal height under the dash, the early 75/78 trucks used an adjustable rod so you could adjust some freeplay if needed. With the fixed rod any variations in clutches can make the clutch engagment either too tight or too loose, if too tight the throwout bearing rides against the pressure plate all the time just shortening its life, plus has slight hydraulic pressure taking up all the slack in the system, as things heat up the fluid can expand and lightly engage the clutch, causing slippage,

i actually have the competition clutch on my integra and i'm loving it, and i've heard great things about exedy clutches too
