leading is a skill, used on older vehicles, and if you start leading on a newer vehicle, you'll say, "hey!!" everytime you see it cuz the panels will have more waves than the pacific ocean it takes a good amount of heat to do it, and newer body panels cant handle it.

Lead is truely an inferior product. I know it is the hot thing to do it "traditionally" and thats what all the Masters used but that was because it was the best that they had. It is very hard to get all the tinning compound and stuff out of the lead. If your metal work is good then plastic or a good fiberglass filler is the best.

leading may be tough to do but im pretty sure it shrinks a lot less than body filler and if done right can look better than filler...just my two cents tho...my dad is working on a 1950 panel truck and he has been using body filler but he just got some lead to try ...in his case i think the lead would be better cause the body panels of a 1950 are very different from today...good luck with it..

Like others mentioned allready. Lead is a heavier compound and an artform to do. Light sheetmetal after heating and forming the lead could possibly warp the sheetmetal. Yet when plastic and fiberglass is done and a good paint job is on, who's going to notice the work under it? I'd say leading over new technology plastic would be more of a self pride thing then what the final product would look like?

lead is the shiz if you know how to do it without warping your body panels other than that i would recommend using fiiler unless you have the skills to lead
