Okay. I have some alpine questions. I am currently running two alpine mrd-m500 pushing 4 alpine type r 10s. Here is where I need help. It is wired series parallel and running 4 ohms. It just does not hit. I hate it. For 4 10s it doesnt sound anywhere that I think that it should. The local Alpine guru said the MRD-M500s love to be at 2 ohms. He said replace the 4 ohm subs with 2 ohms type r's and it will be a world of difference.

Help me out, is it worth it to sell the 4ohm subs and get the 2ohms. Or will I not notice that much gain and just want to throw all the alpine shit in the trash. Oh yeah, the box is sealed and this is in a regular cab toyota. I would say it wouldnt even do a 139 on spl. It really suxxx.

Thanks for your help!!

You will double the power if you drop the amps to 2 ohms. You are only getting about 250 out of them at 4 ohms. Drop it to 2 and you'll get about 500.

I had that problem with the first pair of type r 12's I had and it turned out it was the enclosure not a power issue. I built 9 different boxes for mine before being happy with it. For some reason the type r's like a little bit bigger box that what's recommended. the 12's called for 1ft^3 sealed but sounded alot better in 1.35ft^3. Since then I've done 3 other setup's for friends using type r's and went with the same size boxes for all of them and everyone of them is still loving their setup problem free 4 years later.

Well bein that the subs are 4 ohm subs, there isnt a way to get them to 2 ohm is there?? If there is that would be great but I was told I would need to buy the 2 ohm type r subs to get the sound I am looking for.

Yea you need to get the 2 ohm subs to get it right.

What about dumping the two 500s and getting 1 1000 and running them at 2 ohms off one 1000 amp. Would that make it thump pretty good, or woould I be better off just replacing the subs.

Ihave the same amp and 1 typr r 10 dvc 4ohm. since the amp pushes out 250 watts rms you are only seeing 125w per sub. divide that by the dual coils, and you get 62.5w/coil. that's not much at all. 2ohm drivers will double your power at each coil and creat a 3db gain in the system. how this affects the actual sound though... it should be a great improvement. good luck.

Getting one 1000 would be the same as getting the 2 ohm subs.
