Anyone here actually had a 22r bored out. How far did you go and how much of a difference did you tell? Also anyone got a base price of about how much it costs per cylinder?

i dont think boring really gives you much power, maybe a tad from the SLIGHTLY large combustion sizes - boring to me is only to repair a damaged cylinder wall. Head and Valvetrain are where it counts - backcut valves, multi angle valve job, ported intake and exhaust ports etc

the 22r i have has been bored to .060 over. there really wasnt a big power gain from doing that alone. like glhturbo said, its typically only done to fix damaged and worn cylinders. you'll gain all your power from porting, polishing, intake ports, exhaust ports and valve train. the more fuel and air you can feed a motor the more hp you can gain.. boring a cylinder is just the tip of the iceberg.

Mines .020 over. But Toyotas make all their power in the top end. If you're going to build up the motor, just make sure to rebuild the bottom end. Just doing the top end can sometimes cause problems. My friend redid the top end on his small block and blew a few oil rings.

yeah, if i go to rebuild it i'm gonna do the bottom end too, new main bearings, rod pins, all that shit, new timing stuff, heads port and polished, new valves and a valve job, cam, new pistons and rings. Things of that nature. Anybody know a good place to get a used 22r bare head, for decent price.

if the head you have now isnt cracked or anything...since your going to port and polish it why dont you just use the head you have? thats probably the cheapest thing to do..

they head i have now has about a 3/4" long bye 3/16" wide kind of chunk gone out of the surface of it and i'm kinda worried about it causing problems and i believe its too deep for milling to really help.
