Oh yeah one more question i forgot to ask, the alternator i have now is the stock toyota one that was originally on the truck, just wondering do i need to change anything else out when upgrading or getting a higher output alternator? like the ignition or starter or anything like that?

-Thanks again for the help

Like anything that is higher output something will be the weak link. You can upgrade the wiring, 4guage or thicker is better. May want to upgrade the wiring coming from the alternator and yo may think about a 2 battery setup, just a thought.

you have a link to something where i can read into the double battery setup? I was thinking about that myself on and off. I'd have to run two alternators right?

no you wont have to run 2 alternators. you might look at the stock alt. that came in a 4 runner and see if it has a higher amperage then yours. that way it will bolt in and be factory..

Hmm never thought of that...

hmm the mralternators.com has a 120 amp for 96-00 4runner and pick ups but the engine size is 2.7, mine is 2.4 I'm not sure if that would fit. They also have a 93-95 for 2.4 which is same engine size but mine is a 96. I looked in the hanes manual it doesnt say anything about mounting difference between the years, not sure what i should do. and damn meen green and powermaster is expensivE!

This is the link to a forum @ toyotaminis.com that me and a few others worked on, there are some links to alternators in there and general wiring answers to questions. What disturbs me is alot of these companys ( none I mentioned ) are selling hella high priced units. Ive installed many alternators and upgraded alot of h.o. alternators and I refuse to pay that high a** retail price, good alternators CAN BE affordable and easily installed. The wiring and goodies; depending on your application can get pricy, but, if you do your research and set a budget and do it right the first time, it can make you from ear to ear. If your not to sure about an alternator question the manufacturer or distributer and itll help you decide. " A Big Three " upgrade is HIGHLY recommended in ALL H.O. upgrades. Some of the body drops, suspension upgrades I see on here and other sites can be much harder than these upgrades in my opinion. Stop by toyotaminis.com, read the thread and ask anything specific that you may have in mind. Hope I helped !
