i unhooked the battery, took the 2-screws off the sides of the steering wheel and pulled out the air bag, then i laid under the steering wheel while i unpluged the wires behind the bag to keep my self safe while taking the bag out.

be carefull at my brothers wrecking yard, we blow up the bags for fun and good god its a big explosion.

Un hook the neg. battery cable, and you will be fine. It won't go off. Should be 2 bolts on the back side off the wheel, and the middle section (horn/airbag) should just fall off. Then you can proceed like it was a non airbag weel. Just remmeber that your airbag light on your dash will stay on. And I am not familer w/ the Impala, but alot of GM's the pass side airbag won't work either.

do i need a puller for the impala?

For an 04 you can count on needing a puller.(Most) any car after like 1989 went to a pressed wheel mount for saftey.
