I have a 93 with a 22re. It was really choppy at idle and was cutting out real bad when driving. The cutting out was off and on, never consistant. Well today I unplugged the throttle position sensor to see what it would do. The idle smoothed out nicely and the engine stopped cutting out while driving. I am wondering what is the downfall of running the truck with out the TPS plugged in? Does anyone have a used TPS that works they want to get rid of??

Don't run without, the fuel delivery is controlled by the position of the throttle plate, signal coming from the TPS . You may run too lean or rich, which could cause engine damage!!

Im not too familiar with the 22re's but the first thing i would check given the information provided would be the IAC (Idle Air Control). and with the TPS, i would plug it back in, ive never experianced any damage by running without it, but its not a great idea, your confuzing your engine, and that can never end good. A problem like this happened to my fox body stang...and i had to unplug my tps, or it would stall ever time i got off the gas. It turned out to be a bad alternator and a fuel pump relay. which goes to show i guess it can be alot of things. Please let us know what happens
