Ok, soI picked up a 91 GMC Sierra 2599 light duty, and before we can start cutting it up, I want to get the motor reliable. Right now I am leaking oil like no other! It appears to be the oil cooler housing unit, or the seals on the pipes running to the radiator. My question is, do I need that cooler in there or can I get a shorter adapter and screw the filter right into the block like normal? Please help, I need to get this fixed before we start on the fun stuff! Thanks guys!

well i'd say if its a 2500 and your not going to be hauling anything or giving the engine much of a work out i wouldn't worry about the oil cooler lines.

you can pull off the adapter off the motor and run the filter direct if you dont plan on hauling anything or putting and strain on the motor ie ..burnt outs, street light drags or engine load from climbing a steep grade. the cooler is there to keep oil circulating and cool to help bearing life

look in any jegs or summit catolog. they sell a kit to get rid of cooling lines so you can screw the filter straight to the block

Thanks guys!!! That's what I ended up doing. I just yanked it out and put in the shorter adapter. Oil leak gone, runs like a dream! Time to get started on the fun stuff now!
Thanks for the help guys!
