Compression fitting question.

I just wanted to know how you guys change the brass inserts out?

last time ( the one time) i changed a line i used a new push in part from home depot its the same shit

a home depot is the same as a lowes, but not the same as a dot fitting, the ferrules are a bit bigger and have a collar around them, and is made for dot airbrake line, i usually just cut the line right after the ferrule and put a new one on, parker store sells individual ferrules for their compression fittings. www.gravity-werx.com sells parker fittings, you could get new ferrules from him but hed prolly make you buy 50 of them.

Yea if your fittings are DOT, stick to DOT.. even just the little ferrules and inserts. Try a place more like carquest/napa/truck stops.. I had to pick up a few extra since I didnt think i'd be able to reuse some on my friend's truck. 1. you cut the line and use a new collar.

2. you should only use brass collars on brass line, if you have plastic line you should buy the plastic collars from the place you got your fittings. Brass collars cut plastic line, causing leaks and failures at that point.

^^^ russ, i hate to correct you, but brass ferrules can be used on plastic dot line. ask the fine folks at parker hannafin, they will tell you its fine, me and my friends have ran these setups for 6 or more years with no troubles. heck even on my dads dump truck he has airbrakes with the same dot plastic line and brass compression fittings/ferrules.

cris: it depends on where you get your fittings I guess, where I buy mine they sell plastic collars for plastic line, and brass collars for copper line. Never the twain shall meet is what I was told.

I used to use the copper ones on my plastic line, way back when, and the line always had evidence of being cut at the ferrule. Thats when I asked, and was shown the plastic collars.

Since there are a lot of different companies that sell fittings, I think maybe you should ask the company you buy from like cris and I did.

ive used both, and ive had it cut my line before when I used them from ace/lowes..lol. the parker ones have that small groove though that kinda helps them seat properly. I use plastic ones for all my gauge lines since theyre so skinny
