Ok, I've got 2 450's in my truck, one is the original from when I bagged the truck, like 3 1/2 years ago, and one that is like 3 months old. I had a problem with a sticking relay, and I came out from school one night and had a dea battery and over 250 psi in the tank(yeah I know I need a blow off valve).

Anyways, since then the older compressor has sounded different, and the leader hose doesn't get hot at all. Even right before they shut off, the older hoe is cool to the touch and the new one is freakin HOT. I haven't really noticed any increase in fill time. Still takes about 2-1/5 minutes to fill 10 gallons.

Should I go ahead & rebuild it?

sounds to me you broke your crank shaft on the old 450. they are know to do that if you push them over 175psi a friends psi switch broke in his intergra and it ran to over 220psi and it broke one of his brand new viar 450's he had 2 on a 6 gallon. the sound it makes is as if you were to turn on an electric motor and lut it free rev. doesnt make the distinctive viar sound or he sound of any other air compressor, so i would open it up and see whats broken and there a few guys on her that sell replacement parts for them but im not sure if they sell crank shafts

My younger brother is having a problem with one of his (about 3 years old) kind of sounding weird and he has to tap on it sometimes for it to work.. I dunno if thats kinda what is going on with yours, since his other one isnt working either.. I cant see if its working harder. Sounds like the good one is working harder though to push the PSI you want to have them kick off at.. thats why its gettin hotter. We dunno if itll fix the problem on his, but Im getting him a rebuild kit for his birthday.. I'd be glad to help you out if needed. Hope you figure it out!

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to go ahead and get the rebuild kit. It probably needs it. It was filling the whole 10 gallons for 3 years until I bought the other one.

if it leaks air out the intake on the compressor then the leader hose's check valve is bad and the leader hose needs to be replaced or you can get a parker chack valve and put it on at the tank and problem solved usually

I can help you out with that, let me know if you're still looking for one!
