ya ya its probably been beaten to death, but i just picked up a 87 std cab Hardbody, and i want to put my chrome escalades on it. however the hubs on this truck are a hella lot bigger than the hubs on my mazda. does everyone get their wheels bored out, or has anyone tried grinding the hub down a bit? unfortunately its not 'tabs' like the mazda has. the hub only sticks out a small amount, has anyone tried like 1/4" spacers?

juss bore them out dude.. u grind them and they will be off balance.. BAD! its ganna cost a pretty penny like $150 to get em done but hey ur ride will look SWEET!

Bore them out, thats what i did. Some machine shops wont do it because it gets a little thin between the hub hole and the holes for the studs and nuts.

i have a 97, you can see pics in my profile, all i did is grind the hub down all the way around just try and keep it even. and i used 1/4 in spacers on the back, i havent had any problems with mine.

from what ive heard, escalades have weight bearing hubs, meaning the weight of the truck is all on the hub, not the lugs. but also a nissan is a shitload lighter then a escalade. ide get them bored out. but thats just my opinion

JP you are correct, they are hub eccentric, but the truck is so light that is doesnt matter much.

Clavin I wouldnt be grinding the wheels but the hubs, and its so close to the center that it wont effect the balance.

Mike Im glad that grinding it worked out for you, I havnt decided yet between grinding the hubs or using the hole-saw method described here:

It looks like a good alternative to getting them bored but I have the steel wheels so it will take a lot more effect to drill them out then it would the alloy wheels.

make sure you got a good drill for the holesaw method, I did it on my wheels and only got 2 done and my 1/2" milwakee was burning up and smokin. if I had to do it again I'd pay to have them bored. and I just used a 1/4" spacer on the back, worked fine.
