Okay so I finally got the chance to start spraying my car. I have a craftsman 80 Gallon compressor that has been in commercial use for about 4 years now. The problem is the compressor is about done. So it like to produce a good bit of water... My quistion is if I was to buy my own compressor (brand new) how would i keep the water out? When I started spraying I got the my first coat of Etching primer a little shaky but okay as far as water goes. I did a few more coats and things began to go down hill... I started to block sand a little then I cleaned and prepped again and started my high build (after cleaning the gun of course) Then things got TERRIBLE! IT was like the high build wasnt flowing... One second it would spray an exremely thick coat of 2K then it wouldnt even come out of the fluid tip WHAT SO EVER! Then at one point I was spraying over the hood and condensation got so bad that I had a drop of water fall into the 2k... so I stopped for the day... Anyone got some ideas to correct or tell me what my problems was?

i would run a water seperator and a dryer system so you are only spraying dry air through your gun.

yep, you need a dryer as well as an airfilter hooked to the gun to make sure you don't get any water/debris in the paint.

dryer I have a water serperater and an inline air filter on the tank.

What size fluid tip are you using???? On high build surfacers you need at least a 1.7-1.8 to allow the material to atomize properly. A 1.3 is good for base and clear...

just my .02

yeah its a 1.4 I think...

i mean a 1.4 will spray primer /sealer dp90 or what have you. it could be to thick of primer, i prefer not to even use high build on shaving and other custom work ( due to the shrinkage factor) . I prefer to use a surfacer like ppg 3055 redeced. so id say if you can to reduce your primer. and they do sell a little inline filter/dryer it looks like a little ball. you could try one of those they are like 8 bucks and you can get them at any parts store

If you do in fact have a 1.4 it would be a good investment to pick up a cheapo primer gun.......also make sure that the fluid tip and all other parts are tight so there is no air leakage.

You can get by with a 1.4.......you will just have to throw on a extra coat or two of surfacer.

p.s. remember to clean the sh|t out of the gun when you are going to start spraying base....and clean again with the clear coat

yeah the 2K high build I purchased must be reduced... if thats what your saying i need is a high build that uses a reducer. Yeah I picked up a cheap paint gun but I belive it was way to cheap. 20 bucks and it shot primer like a water gun... pissed me off thats why I only have my HVLP now. IR it is by the way
