SO if I want to go ahead and get me a new cam I know I need the basics, gaskets and such but what is the process in these motors?

Aren't they over the head meaning I can just pull the valve cover and go fomr there? Or is there more that would be needed to remove? I'm used to my chevy v8's haha

timing chain and all that jazz has to be dropped to remove the cam.

Remove the timing chain cover, valve cover, and everything will work out. Pretty simple, just tedious.

You don't need to remove your timing cover, just use some zip ties to secure the chain onto the sprocket and remove it from the camshaft then with the sprocket and chain secured together wedge the two on the guides so it puts tension on the chain and crankshaft sprocket. Also make sure the engine has been sitting for a couple of hours and drain a little coolant. If not then you might just get oil and coolant in the cylinders when you loosen the head bolts. I have done about 20 cam swaps this way and had no problems. Hope that helps.
