Does anybody know how to bypass that bullshit about windows xp not letting you sharing the windows and program files folders on a network because they are used the OS? I have a small p2p network at the house, and only I will be using it. The reason I ask is because I recently acquired a free old 500 mhz celeron PC w/ 64 megs of ram w/ win98. When I install my virus software on it, it becomes uselessly slow (otherwise, is zips right along, fast as hell for what it is). I want to be able to access my norton programs off my XP computer, and run them on this old '98 PC.

Never mind. I am getting Windows XP Pro for $12 thru my school I'll be able to share em then.

u can network with xp and 98... get on the puter with xp go to control panel and set up a small home network blah blah and it will let u create a disk (really simple its a big window that says would u like to save this network setting to a floppy disk to be uploaded by other computers) you select yes and save it.. put the disk in the pooper computer.. and load it.. and ull have a shared folder.. where u can put ur junk

yes, but i still can't share my windows and program files folders on the XP computer. all the other folders i can share. the network is fully functional besides that annoyance.

You are probably gonna run into the same problem. . .XP alone is going to use up most of the resources on the old computer, and by networking into the other computer it really won't make that much of a difference because of the speed of the older pc. . .your network connection will only be as fast as the weakest link. ..

yes, i realize the older computer will still be slow...ONLY while i am running the anti virus program over the network. it won't need to be bogged down every time i start it, and while i use it. only when i scan for viruses. i realize it won't be as secure as having the AV program on it with auto protect, but hey, its an old POS. lol. for now i have just re installed the virus program in a separate folder on drive c on my xp system. i didn't want to go thru all that hassle, but oh well. i will just wait til i get pro, and it will let me share what ever the fuck I WANT. not what the fuckers at MS want me to be able to.
