air struts would be the best for ride quality and reliability

I have a neon but it is 1st gen. I have brislands which are exspensive but the only thing that works on the 1st gen because of the way the struts and the suspension is."may have changed in 2nd gen" The cheap rods kept braking on my buddy's 1st gen and also brisland made brackets that made it almost a bolt in kit. You pay for what you get and they are quality rods.
