rust like paint job?

my room mate is wanting to paint his truck to make it look like its rusted...like on that VW Bug that Jesse James did on Monster Garage. anyone know hows its done? ive searched all over the place and coudnt find anything. thanks for the help!!

umm i thoguht that was just some brown lacquer primer...

i had some reddish brown primer on my truck and i had a lot of people tellin me it looked like rust.

look up the word "patina" ... that might more the style you're looking for.

They actually make a product for this. I cant remember who makes it because the magazine its in is at my shop but I could find out if you wanted to know more. You brush on a black base, then fling on the rust base, the clear. Its crazy looking stuff. Let me know if you want me to find out exactly who makes it.

take it down to metal set it outside for a few days then clear over it hahaha..... j/k
