What Does This Show?

When you run a carfax...what does it show? Actually, what I want to know is how does mileage show up? Is it your last service at a dealer or what? Any help would be great.Thanks.

I worked at a dealership in PA a few years ago and when used cars would come in they had a guy from carfax come in and check the VINs on the dash and doors and write the mileage down. That was about it. but in PA we have yearly inspection and the mileage is recorded evey year and sent to the state. I also looked at an S10 at a dealership that gave a free carfax report on used cars and it said the truck was wrecked in virgina. It said it hit a deer was fixed and then sold at an auction in PA. The salesman told me carfax uses the insurance data base. I really have no idea. And this probably doesnt help at all but im at work and was bored

Sometimes it shows alot...sometimes it shows nothing. Can show the actual milage of a car, but it can also be frauded when people dont get state inspected and what not because they can change there milage. Also it will show accidents that are on file, but if you get in an accident and pay cash out of pocket and there is no police report then carfax or insurance records will never show. Most cars when you carfax them it comes up with everything you need to know...whether the car was a taxi, what state it was from, if it was used in commerical use, if it was in a flood, it it was lemon lawed...there are alot of things it will show. But like I said some people go around getting bad info on there cars by doing shady shit.
