my speedometer does not work and i was told that the vtech doesn't kick in if thats the case. Can some-1 explain the vtech concept please?

Do you want to know what Vtec is or do you want to know if Vtec will work if your speedo doesnt?

I am not sure myself, but I dont see why Vtec wouldnt work if your speedo doesnt work, it doesnt have anything to do with the speedometer, the Vtec has its own solenoid that controls it. You can actually test it by revving your car up and listening for a change in the exhaust sound/engine sound to a higher rev, or t-tap a test light into the solenoid that powers when vtec kicks in and do the same thing.

vtec requres a bunch of imputs to function (even your RPM and stuff like that) however, if your spedo isnt working at all, i would look into your VSS (speed sensor) or the spedo cable itself... if its the VSS it should be throwing a code though (check engine light should be on) good luck (but i will tell you... that if your spedo isnt working ... neither will vtec)
