Gas Neck Bracket

I am not going to be using my stock gas tank or the stock location, and I am in the process of shaving all the unneeded holes and boxing in my frame. Before I removed the gas filler neck bracket between to two front bed mounts, I wanted to make sure that the filler neck was the only purpose that the bracket served. If I do not need to use that bracket to support my gas filler neck, I can just shave it off, right? Please help me out if you know, Thanxs.
