Hey everyone, I should get my truck back from the shop Wednesday or Thursday this week. I had my doors shaved after someone broke in and stole my CD player, but that is not the point. Is there anything that I should be watching out for, such as problems associated with door poppers and anything else like that? I would love to be able to tackle projects like this myself, but I don't have any skills with a welder and I don't know how to get some. Anyway, just let me know if I should expect anything.

If you got a good set of door poppers you should NOT have any problems....

Kris, what would you recommend then for a daily driver? (poppers)

If your hood can only be opened from the inside, it might be a good idea to rig up a hood release cable under the front bumper, etc. This way if your battery was ever to die, you would be prepared.

I just finished putting in the AVS shaved door kit literally 30 minutes ago on a 2001 silverado, its pretty straight forward and easy to do. i hadnt done it before and it took me 2 hours to completely rip open the truck and put it back together with NO problems. I'd say AVS is the way to go, its bolt-on and relatively cheap.

It also has back-up wires incase u get locked out...u have to place them somewhere hidden so other people dont pop ur doors and take ur truck...

Its extreemly easy to add these backup wires, if you have any knowledge of electrical systems it should not be a problem. Any kit will be fine as long as the solenoids are of a good quality.

I'd make sure you've got an external popper or some way to get into the hood from the outside. If touve got power locks ,disconnect them. Some guys have the locks connected to the alarm and there is a chance they will stick and if they do then your doors wont pop when you hit the soleniod. Also keep ,you door panel off for the first week or so because some minor adjustment to the clamps on the solenoid may be needed.

AVS has a complete bolt on kit that only needs additional poppers, it eliminates the door locks on the truck...u have to rip out all of the rods except for the one connecting to the interior door handle. there is very little (if any) adjustment needed to the bolt-on kit i did...and as far as having an external popper for the hood, i wouldnt worry about it...with the back-up wires all u have to do is touch them to a battery and ur doors will open and then u can pop ur hood if necessary...
