I own a 2001 3.8 mustang and its just not enough power for me. I've been looking for a 4.6 donor car for a little while. I just came across a 1997 Mustang GT A/T with 66,000 miles on it, hes only asking $2,000 and he said he would hold it for me(garaged). It has front end damage but only the K-member was damaged as far as the engine bay goes. What problems would i run into swapping the whole drivetrain into my car(engine, tranny, driveshaft, axle, pcm etc..). both cars are automatic. I could swap the engine in like 4 months when i get into my chassis fab and high performance engines class at Wyotech.

It's not worth it. Especially if you are going to do it with a 96-98 car. Those cars are turds. I have a 2000 v6 and researched it for years. It'll be cheaper and easier to sell your car and buy a GT. I know that is not what you want to hear but its the truth.

Oh yeah. As your car sits right now it is probably just a half a second slower than a 96-98. The 99-04 GTs are a differnt story.

I'm not 100% positive but I think the 96-98 have 215 and the 99-04 have 260. alot of people with 96-98 cars put the pi (99-04) heads and intake on there to make the same power as a stock 99-04 car. But if you are going to do a complete swap you might as well get a 99-04 engine.
