get a small metal punch and take a torch and you'll have to heat up the rivet and then after it's warm one or two hits with the hammer and punch it will fall right out.
You have to heat them because the rivets are "hot pressed" where they take a red hot tapered rivet and press it in so that when they cool they are tight after they press/smash the heads of the rivets tight.
Even if you grind it all the way flat it will still be real tight and you may not be able to hammer it out cold.
Try the heat, it works real good and easy! Prolly a propane plumbing torch would be fine too, if you don't have a cutting torch.
