Well guess who had a hell of a time getting into tier ride today ?

ME !

With all the rain we got in the last couple days, then the frigid temp last night, I beleive that some water or moisture got in the solonoids and froze ! It took me around ten times of pressing the button and beating on the door to get the solonoids to cylce. So I am thinking about pulling them out of their current location (the typical spot down low under the latch (01 GMC Sonoma)and mounting them horizontally on the interior side of the inner doorskin (where the void is behind the armrest) but I will be drying them out thoroughly first...then welding a washer to the rod that the interior handles uses to pull on the latch and connecting the pull cable to that...or just covering the solonoid with some plastic sheeting ?

Any ideas or thoughts on this ?....besides a beater...finances have forced me to drive her this winter

Thanks, Scott.

I feel your pain. Both of my trucks have shaved handles and they are a pain in the ass. I can't tell you how many times I have had to remove the door panel and mess with my solenoid in the past month.

you should get the emergency release kit from autoloc, just really a wire like the hood pop cable that hooks to your dor handle in the door and you put the other end wherever you want to hide it, when that problem happens you just pull the wire and your door opens, if you sit there and try to pop the door a bunch of times, you run the rixk of heating up the solenoid and frying it, this option may be woth the extra pocket change, i think they are 20-30 bucks, look on ebay

I've got one of the autoloc emergency cables on my mazda worked great when my battery died once and in cold whether way cheaper than a blown solenoid or smashed window.

save your money and go to a bike shop spend 6 or so bucks on some brake cable and run from latch to fender through the door grommett, someplace you can get to if something happens. and its also not a good idea to mount solenoids directly below latch, because water will run down the cable and sit on the solenoid and cause it to malfunction or in your case freeze. the water can cause the popper to rust and stick. just fyi

i did the bicycle brake cable release, it works "slick as snot" but its gonna suck if i ever have to lay down in the slush to reach for it !

S10s suck, I had problems with my door handles in cold weather even b4 i shaved them. My key hole would always get stuck.
