Dual Tanks on a 88 b2200 cab plus

Doing a dual tank tank setup on my truck. I live in NC but make frequest trips to south florida and upstate ny couple times a year and ive never heard of anyone doing this so i figured why not. Donor parts from a 1989 f150 with dual tanks. the rear tank behind the axle is usually a 17 gallon, some as big as 39 (factory option) or little as 12 i think. I got the 17 gallon. electric in tank pump is needed on both tanks as the selector valve works off of pressure. the tank pictures are different as im not sure how i want to mount it yet. either one of those. im thinking long ways due to exhaust clearance and right side leaf spring shackle clearance. the valve works off pressure with the dash switch on either tank. if the switch is on the front tank, the valve will sense pressure and move the valve body accordingly. move the switch to tank 2 it moves it back and blocks off the opposite tank. the switch works the gauge as well. enjoy!

hmm, this has some potential, and I was pondering ideas to do this myself. How were you planning to do the fuel gauges? I mean, the Ford tank is going to use a different sender, do you think that the factory gauges would still be able to read em?

As far as i know the ford sender has the opposite ohm reading. so you could do one of 3 things. 1 possibly reverse the polarity on the one sender so they read right, not sure if you can do that. 2 fords that year had independant gauges in the dash and could make a housing for that fuel gauge and mount it seperately. 3 or just hook it up and when its on the rear tank just remember its going to go from e to full!

I like the dual gauge idea, next would be finding a way to make it look factory on the gauges.

Im leaning towards checking the stock gauge and just using it. after all i do hit the trip every fill up. also ive come up with a idea for the 2nd filler neck using a flat marine filler neck for like a pontoon boat. that is if you dont mind cutting a hole in the middle if the bed. still figurin it out

I am toying with an idea in my mind just in case I were to do this myself. It is kinda hard to explain what I am visualizing in my mind.

As a man with your experience id like to know what you are thinking! I did this setup off the ford because me and a friend tore one apart and spent time and figured it out and saw how easy it was. type on emjay!

Well, you know how the dimmer switch for the gauges is on the left of the gauge bezel, and how there is a blank spot on the right side where another switch could be? Well one idea that I was toying with was to find some sort of gauge that would possibly fit in such a small space (like one part from a tach cluster, or one from another vehicle that looks similar) and have that signal being fed from the aux tank.

Another idea that I was toying with was to find a way to have the stock fuel gauge to have 2 needles, signals fed from the different tanks. I would need to find a set of gauges to use for parts either way, as this would take some very serious modification.

I was toying with a third idea, although this one would be MUCH harder to source out, but to find a vehicle that utilizes 2 tanks AND a single fuel gauge with 2 needles, and cannibalize that gauge and adapt it to the Mazda face.

Like I said, I have a TON of ideas swimming in my head, and I am trying to sort through them and come up with a concrete plan. Once I have a concrete plan I can actually try to gather parts and implement the idea. Funding at the moment is making Redemption a lot longer project than I planned. That, and with Andy-Rice, and Alice, and Maggie needing major repairs, it'll be a while before I can ACTUALLY do anything with Redemption.

Could we take apart the mazda gauges and use that gaug, off of a tach cluster? it may fit. as for the one gauge with dual needles. i work on some class 5 trucks that have air tanks and the gauges are dual needle but i dont know if they are mechanical or electronic. that may be worth looking into because class 8 trucks have 2 seperate air systems, given the air gauge would be fuel but it could work.

the switch is small. i think it will fit perfectly into one of the 3 square switch spots to the right of the steering column cover.

wonder if theres any marine gauges with dual needle gauges. hmmmm onto google i go!
