I was told by a buddy of mine that they used white lithium spray down inside of there air cylinders to help prevent it from leaking. I guess the cylinders leaked so bad he couldnt drive it and after spraying this stuff down into them it sealed it up. Has anyone ever heard of using this or doing this to help seal up leaks? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

No bumping. If somebody knows they will answer. I for one have never sprayed white lithium spray down my cylinders. I have used Snap-On air gun cleaner, and then greased the shaft of the cylinder, but never the white lithium spray.

sorry for bumping, didnt know. Did that make a good seal to the shaft? Did you grease the part of the shaft the comes out of the cylinder or did you take the cylinder apart? Thanks

Lifted it all the way up and greased the cylinder....dropped it a few times and put it all the way back up and did the same over again.

But when I did the Snap on gun spray I aired it out, disconnected all my air lines and sprayed that into my valves, into my cylinders, into the air tank so it flows around. I used to do that once a month when I daily drove my car. I am going to have to do that again actually so that it is good for the winter.....

what kind of grease did you use? We have a number of different kinds at my shop.

I cant remember. I am actually going down to the shop in like an hour to bring my car to my wiring guy. I will be on later tonight I will get the name of it and let you know. It was red and its in a container like butter spread is in about that size. All weather, and make sure you just check the bottom of your cylinder that there isnt build up because that breaks the seals down as well. I am talking about the shaft part were the cylinder bottoms out. It collects there.

If you need to get out of a jam (car off the road) you can put cooking oil down into them to help the seal, however this is not recommend for long use.

greasing the outside of the cylinders (all the ones that i know of) will not do you any good because on the bottom of the cylinder there is what is called a wiper gland that keeps the dirt out and the grease in. now if you have alot of water/oil in your system it will wash out all of the factory grease and you will need to lube them.

parker cylinders from the factory come with "magna-lube G" which is a teflon based grease which you can get from mcmaster car or magnalube.com. you can really run any type of grease inside of them as long as they are non detergent and non abrasive.

to lubercate the cylinders its best to disassemble them and lube everything up. now if you can disassemble them you can try putting the grease in through both ports however that way is really messy and doesnt work as well but you have to do what you have to do.

I would suggest against the spray as i dont think that i would last very long inside the cylinders.

silicon paste and spray is the best thats what most companeys use during the assembly process
