how much paint would i need?

how much paint would i need to paint a whole single cab minitruck how much of all three layers cuz i have some one who could paint for me but all i need is to buy the paint and i dont wanna over spend

By 3 layers do you mean sealer, paint, and clear? I would say you need AT LEAST a Gallon of each except sealer. 1/4 to 1/2 Gallon of Sealer depending on if your painting the fenders, doors, etc off with reducer and activator, Gallon of paint with Activator, and a Gallon of clear with activator.

you do not need a gallon of each. you will need no more than a quart of sealer, and as far as the base and clear it will depend on what company you go witha s to how it is mixed. some paint is mixed 1 to 1 and if that is so you would have 2 gallons of base. lol a little more than you need for 2 cars. call your local paint supply tell them what you are painting and they will be able to tell you what you need with using their product. if you have a ppg near you they run a bucket deal for 250.00 that gives you everything including tape and paper. cant beat that.

when i painted my truck wtih single stage i used like 2/3 gallon to do the whole thing, door jambs, bed, tailgate, under the hood

Oops, I take back the gallon of sealer, I didnt mean a gallon, I ment somewere around a 1/4 gallon to seal everything. But you will need at least a gallon of paint and clear, im not sure how good you want your car to look but I cleared my car, wet sanded it, and then cleared it again. I got a gallon of paint and there is enough left so that if I have to repaint something small, or touch anything up I am ok. I would SUGGEST a gallon of paint and a gallon of clear. But its all up to you. Better to have to much, than not enough.

If the paint company does pricing like we do, it woul dbe just as cheap to buy a gallon, as opposed to 3 quarts. True you might not need it, but I feel it's better to have extra than to run out in the middle of a job.ChrisTexas

like the other guy said it all depends on the paint company you use. the one we use at work mixes 1 to 1 so if you bought a gallon unreduced and then reduced it he's right you would end up with 2 gallons and it also depends on the color you are painting some colors are more transparent than others therefore you would need alittle more than normal but like he said if you contact the company that you are using and let them know the color you are looking at they will let you know how they mix it and how much you need

when I did my cavalier I was doing black primer to white. took a little over 1 quart but I was just doing quarter panels, bumpers and side skirts. I would emagine if you got three quarts you should be set for doing the whole car. but again thats on a 1:1 ratio. so it depends on what company you go with. I used Dupont.

are yall tlakin a gallon sprayable or just a gallon of actual base?

if i remem right i used almost a full gallon sprayable(1/2gal base) when i did my interior peices and reshot my bed after fixing the t/g skin

I am talking about un reduced base color. after the reducer you get more actualy sprayable paint. the clear we used is transtar quick drying beause we didn't have a booth to do it in and were shooting in a garage and wanted it to dry fast. that was mixed 1:1.
