ok right now when i jack up my lower control arm when it hits the bump stop its layed so my question is after i cut out this bump stop how much higher will the arm travel. I just want to know so that i dont crush the bag of drag strait through the frame. or if the lower arm comes up much further would it be better to set it up so i can do negatives.

that how i cut mine, you wont have to cut your upper shock tower off tho, i had to because it was all hacked from the previous owner

Im a little confused on the draggin thru the frame/crushing bag/negatives part.. let me know what ya meant. What is usually done, is cut all that bumpstop stuff outta the way, plate the rectangle shaped hole to stregthen it back up. then youll wanna jack the lower arm up as high as itll go and work from there. find the right spacing away from the framerail, then tack the lower circle plate to the lower arm. bolt the bag to it, jack the lower arm back up to that maxed out point and compress the bag with your hand to see where the upper bracket will line up at. the upper and lower brackets should be parallel to each other when laid out. tack the upper, remove the bag, weld it all up with gussets, etc.

I have a good amount of pics on my site.. but a few somehow stopped working. i hope they can help you a little, just click my sig and goto the shop page. cant miss them, good luck bro.

ok so all i have to do is jack up my lower control arm as far as it will go and this will be were i work from. but does anybody know how much further past the bump stop the arm travels because right now whith the bump stop no rubber left the truck lays the front cross member? im only runing stock wheels with 195 60 r14.

((Im a little confused on the draggin thru the frame/crushing bag/negatives part..))

well if my trick lays and i drag then it will start going throought the frame so if the front suspension goes up further like puting 2*4 under tires (making negative) and still laying out the i could posibly keep draging throught the frame! so if it hapend to go further the truck could posibly pinch the bag together too far!

Oh yeah i will be baging this week during my holidays will post pictures daily. so any help would be apreciated!

best thing to do is just cut everything off, rickys site has some good pics like he said. i did my gussets diffrently then he did, but its all the same idea. then just jack the control arm up till it wont go any more, then you work from there, its pretty simple. i have my 87 bagged on 195 70 r14's and lay crossmember. so if you ever plan on gettin bigger wheels, set you suspension up for them now, thatway you wont have to hack your brackets off and move them up later down the road

Yea definitely dont wanna screw with having to cut them off and redo them later.. that'd suck. Don't worry about laying "too hard" to where you can drag alot of the crossmember off, it's not gonna hurt anything unless you actually DO drag completely through the frame and hit the oilpain, etc lol.

these are my templates. are they too long i dont have very much steel and is there enough covering the top of the bag! if someone has the lenght of there brackets that would be helpful these are 6.5 inches but i can move the holes if the lenght is alright and there is not enough covering the bag.

if i'm understanding you right, then just cut off the bumpstop mounts. rip out the torsions, put your wheels back on & put it on the ground. then take all youe measurements. you'd be better off going to a wheel & tire shop to find out the outer diameter of the wheel & tire combo you choose to go with & use that as your baseline.
hope that helped, & BTW your upper bag bracket template is way too small. it should cover the whole top plate of the bag, so your gussets can go to the outer edge as far as possible to prevent bending.
good luck
