im my battle to fix my mazda, another problem ive ran into is alot of pressure building up in the coolant system, it actually burst one of the hoses. if you tighten the radiator cap up it starts building pressure, and will bog the motor down, then loosen it and the pressure lifts and the motor idles back up. any guesses as to what it is?? i replaced the head 2 days ago also.

SOME PASSAGE IS DEFINITLY BLOCKED... DID YA DO THE HEAD CAUSE OF AN OVER HEATING PROBLEM TO BEGIN WITH? IF SO DID YA HAVE THE BLOCK CHECKED?

a buddy says the head gasket is shot and there is pressure comin from the exhaust, sound like a possibility?

ruuuuusssttttyyyyyyy where are you!!!!!

radiator plugged? Take it out and run water through it, it shoulod gush, not drip.

Does the mazda head gasket fit upside down? I never checked.. I did that on a volvo once and fuxord it pretty good.

You'd know if you had exhaust in the coolant because it would heat up in 20 seocnds and boil over constantly. If thats what its doing I'd look at the gasket.

Maybe when you scraped the head gasket you let some crap fall into the block walls Cris. Pull the thermostat and see if there is alot of crud there (it's the first place crap can get stuck before it's sent to the radiator). After that, the radiator is a possibility like mentioned already. But if you put the gasket upside down like Russ said be sure to post cuz that would be fuckin funny. PS not sure if it fits upside down either.

Hmmm, does coolant spew out of the filler when you remove the cap? Coolant has to be flowing past the thermostat if the cap is making an effect. Flush the radiator, wouldn't hurt either way.

if i push the gas pedal, it will shoot coolant from the cap (if its off), im gonna do 2 things today, put a new head gasket on, and flush the radiator. and no fuckers it only lines up 1 way and i took the thermostat out thinkin that might have been it.

yeah it sounds like a radiator clogged or could be a heater core if it does it only when the heat is off. most likely the radiator.

good thinking. Most times when you have a bad head gasket or a cracked head it is only a symptom, not the problem. Meaning head gaskets and cracked heads can stop a truck but they are caused by other things that dont, like plugged rads or bad thermostats or coolant leaks. Rarely does a head or head gasket just "go bad".
