Driveline question

Okay, after setting my frame on the ground, if the driveline is all the way in the tranny the axle is too far forward.

So, my question is, if I pull the driveline yoke out of the tranny a little bit, will I be okay? It only needs to move back about 1.5". Or do I need to get my driveline extended? Or, will it push itself paryially back in when I lift the truck up?

seth depends on how you set your truck up. i set up the trucks i do so the rearend is center in the wheel well at all times. if you plan on doing the same the drive shaft needs to be extended. the driveshaft can move in and out of the tranny but only as much as an inch. due to the fact the drive shaft is usually worn a groove in it an ich in both directions anything more will cause a leak and prematurly waste the seal

Well, essentially I would like my wheels in the center of the wheelwell at all times. So, I will need to extend the driveline? Do you normally extend yours, or have it done? And, if so, where do you go for it, and how much does it usually cost?

what you need to do is measure from the pinion flange to the trans output shaft housing take that measurement and the old driveshaft to a driveline shop and have them make you a new one. they sometimes use your old yokes for the new one and have the replace the u-joints with replaceables. import driveshaft have none replaceable u-joints and the driveline shop can install them for u. i uually pay around 150+- for a driveshaft. i also sometimes have them make a new one with smaller diameter tubing for clearence

but u didnt even do ur 4link yet, how u knwo its gona be a issue? mine is all torn apart except for the leafs they are still there so i can keep the pinion angle. i will prob leave the leafs there till i get hte forward triangle bars mounted so the angles stay all equal.

Well, I'm not entirely sure. I just pushed the driveline in as far as it would go, because it nearly came out when I split it from the rear end. So, I'm not sure how far it was originally in, and I can't exactly look and see the end of it now.. Lol. But, I know it has to move back about 1.5" from being all the way in the tranny, to be centered.

ive never had an issue with mine over the past 4 years.... it stays centered all the time EXCEPT maybe at FULLFULL lift it'll move a lil bit.... non-extended, just depends on how u set it up, like bobby said

So basically, if I set it up where I want it, and the tranny doesn't leak It's probably good? It had to be pulled out pretty far and left there a little while before any fluid came out.

when the 4 link is done check your range of travel if the sheild cup on the drive shaft pulls past the output shaft housing theres a possiblity it may leak but check how far it pulls out when done then decide wither or not you need to extend your shaft
