heres the deal...my rear end is leaking and i dont know why. its coming out of the area basically where the driveshaft bolts to the rearend where that donut balancer is. its not a whole lot and only really leaks when im driving cause i see its kinda spraying when the driveshaft turns but doesnt leave a puddle when im parked. and its coming through the hole in the bed and kinda gettin everywhere. Anyone know why its doing this and how i can fix it?? how do i fill the rear end up with fluid too??? thanks

Sounds like a pinion seal gone south. Replace it.

Or bad take out food? You can fill the housing thru the vent tube or the fill plug on th passenger side of the housing.

is that pinion seal pretty easy to replace or should i just have a shop do it...i know my way around the truck and have the tools to do it.....oh yeah how much would one be if i bought one from checker?

you might have to replace the yoke, when you pull it out, check to see if theres a groove wore in it, if so the seal will always leak. but the seal is where its leakin, not hard to replace. you take the driveshaft off, then use an impact wrench to spin off the nut (a good impact), then pull off the yoke, pry out the seal, but be careful not to mess up the edge where the seal goes, then get a new seal, use some hi temp silicone on it, then tap it in, since im redneck i use a huge socket thats the size of the seal, and tap it in, because if you bend it trying to hit the edges it will leak. then put it back together, and fill the rear end with oil.

and the seal should be like 10 bux, when i got my new yoke from the dealer, it came with a seal.

also put some more loctite on the threads were the nut goes back on cuz it could be coming out of there to...

Hopefully you didnt take this advice, if you remove the pinion yoke you will remove the pinion bearing preload. Assuming that this is on a Chevy/GMC truck, You will need to remove the differential case to remove the Pinion shaft and install a new crush sleeve. At this time you can install your new seal. You will need to recrush the sleeve, you will need a press, torque wrench and knowledge of how to do this job. The pinion bearing preload needs to be properly set and everything reinstalled, then take a pattern and adjust pinion depth and backlash.

Hope it is not to late!!!! At least other may see this. I would recommend taking it to a diff/driveline shop or qualified automotive shop.

sorry i guess the nbs chevys are different, cause you dont have to do that on the obs. the only thing i left out that the haynes manual says is to count your threads on the pinion gear so you can torque it back to the same spot, mark it so it goes back on in the same spot, and put some sealant on the splines.
