this is a really dum question that id just like to know alittle bit more about...Why exactly do some cars thump for miles and others (like my dad, 2000watts 2MTX9000's) jsut sorta buzz the wipers? Some cars are shaking items off the shelf in walmart, from the parking lot andsome sound crazy loud inside but have no thump outside....Does anyone have any info? And yes, i do know that theres no way to know how a stereo will sound in a car, w/o putting it in.

I dont think its a dumb question. I often wonder the same thing. I believe it has something to do with the way a vehicle is built. That and how much is in it.

I'm sure it has a lot to do with air space and the overall design of the box. I know my single cab Ram used to hit harder than my friends extended Ram with bigger speakers. I think it might have a lot to do with it

yup, different in every vehicle it seems... best "system" i ever had was some generic 10's in a band pass box w/ a kenwood 821 in a vw bus... that fuckin thing just hit hard as hell and i've got no idea why....

the thing is that the ones you hear outside the car could be actually louder then they are because all the sound your hearing outside the car is the vibration of panels and if the panels were dampened the spl would increase because we all know flexing is the enemy of spl. There are too many aspects for me to list why some setups are louder then others but it all comes back to the quality of the install.

Also alot of is the sound waves exiting the car. Each car is differently built. In some cars one system will fuckn pound and the same system in another car sounds like ass. Take resonance for instance. It is produced by the subs pounding the shit out of the car. Making panels vibrate in some cars its not bad but in some it is. Like I said each car is different.

sound waves themself wont exit the car unless windows or doors are open they simply transduce through the panels as vibrations the same way your ear drums work.
