Alright, I've seen it done and I know the process I reckon. All except for what is needed to clean the inside before cutting/welding? Or the steps to preparing the section without a timebomb going off in the ol' face-a-roni. Any suggestions would be appreciated, fellers.

clean it out with soapy water and let it sit for a few days and repeat until you cant smell gas, then when you go to weld it purge it with shielding gas and then weld away, then go to the get some of the por-15 gas tank sealer and reseal it and you will be good to go.

Or do the old firebomb trick, fill the tank up with water then light the gas vapour on fire, and then let out a tiny bit of water and do it again, slowly do thet till the whole tank full of vapour is gone. sounds scary but works well, or take it and have it steam cleaned at a tank repair shop....that is by far the safest method.

LIL' B i have done it a bunch and a good bit of soapy water and scrub it is you can get your hand in the sending unit hole. do it over and over again. i usually do it five times in a row and you will be fine. i leave it empty i dont put shielding gas in it. i leave all the ports open also. you can also take it to a radiator shop and have it boiled out for about $30. good luck if you need anything give me a buzz man. later cookie

Argon seems the safest to me. Argon is heavier than air so as you fill it up it purges the air from the tank. No air, no explosion.

i just did mine, and i'll share alittle with ya lol, i just let it sit up for about 3 days full of soapy water, and twice i let a hose run in it for about 30 min each time. it was fine. a buddy of mine that used to repair tanks alot told me to do the "firebomb" method like aaron said, but i played it safe the getting it sealed back up is the hard part i bought a kit from eastwood.com

run exhaust from a running car/truck into the tank while welding(car has to have converters and running good, not rich), fuck the soap thing. all teh carbon diaoxide keeps the fumes from combusting. thats how i did my tank when a rock knocked a hole in it from draggin(b4 i got a fuel cell and b4 cris broke my truck by kickin the fuel pump shut off )

man, only james would do somethin like that sounds like somethin i'd see in a trailer park up the road...... and they would be using the filler neck hose to hook to the tailpipe..
