My gas gauge does not work! When I put gas in my 1987 Chevy C-10 it will pump for a minute then stop, then I can pump some more and it will stop I don't know if it's full or not. I need help don't know what to do? I neeed to drive it 150 miles to a show in a month!

We had the same problem after we bodydropped my friends 99, we couldnt figure it out for a while, then we realized that when the bed sides went down they kinked the filler neck a little, which was causing the gas to back up and kick the pump off, ater that he had the gas door shaved so we just relocated the filler neck. You might see if yours may be kinked also.

Haha I used to have the same problem with every 73-87 Chevy I have owned. When you put the nozzle in turn it so its almost upside down and the handle resting on the gas door...it will fill the tank completly. I dont know why they do that, but everyone I have owned worked when I did this.

On my 84 C-10 I have to hold the nozzle just right or it won't fill it up.Gas wants to back up the filler neck and kick off the gas pump.I know where the "sweet spot" is now.

i shaved my gas door and instead of relocating to the inside of the bed i just shortened the rubber hose and made a mount for it underneath my sheetmetal bed. so i crouch down and reach up and over the tire to fill up. people look at me weird at the pump. and i do have to go real slow at first or otherwise fuel will spill all over the ground. but once your used to it its no big deal. people ask how do you put gas in your truck. and then i look at them with a serious face and say, ohh crap. i didnt think about that.... pause... and then tell them its underneath the bed.

the first time that i filled it up it wasnt working just right. clamp loose or whatever so i had to climp underneath the truck and loosen the filler neck from the fuel cell. did this about 3 times and finally got it to work. i had to sign 3 recipts. the first for $.28 second for $.34 and the last for $30.00 its all good now
