Hi everyone, ok i been working with carbon fiber and so i decided to use clear coat. I have the Du pont nason clear. The first time i cleared the pieces i ended up with somethign called fish eyes and was told to sanded it and clear again. So this time when i did it i notice that when it started to dry it had bubble in the clear coat and seem like litte bumps started to appear.

What am i doing wrong? this happen twice alreayd i had sanded it down once when this happend and tryed again but it still happening thank you.

hit it with wax and grease remover.. make sure its completely clean..

the fish eyes is from dirt and shit.

so there's no special prep required to promote adhesion to Carbon Fiber !?! this would be most excellent news...
like if i was gonna paint a design on it with some Carbon still exposed then clear the whole hood... is this cool

thanks in advance

do you have a water separator from your air supply to the gun?

yea i have the water separator on the compressor. As for the bubbles i think i might be over spraying since i have never done this. As the bumbs that are appearing are pin size i am not sure what the cause of that it.

also do you guys think i can just sand with 2000 wetsand and buff it out will that work and come out shinny still?

you can wetsand your clear to polish out the fish eyes.....knock it down with 800, then step up to 1000, then 1500, then 2000, then buff it all out.

Or knock it down with some 600/800 wet then re-clear.

Be careful not to burn through your clear.

And your fish eyes, could be coming from not running an air dryer too....not just the water seperator.

i had done this like 3 times.. the first time i had the fish eye.. then i sanded an recoated and got less fish eye so i sanded and recoated and this time i got pin size bumps poping up and some bubbles from previous coats in the part.

solvent pop?

its solvent popping now, the solvents didnt have enough time to evaporate between flash times.

make sure you have a good dryer for your air, and if you aint got the cash get a cheap inline dryer. but if you put like 3 coats on you shouldnt have a problem wet sanding all the fish eyes out with like 1200. just buff it with a wool pad then polish it, trust me the wool pad will save you a lot of buffing.
