isobarics only have half the cone area compared to two woofers mounted in a box. BUT they have a lot higher control, so you can run higher than rated power. Its still a loss though, because doubling power does not guarantee a doubling of output. The ideal way to do isobaric mounting is to use 4 woofers in half the box. But that gets expensive.
Also, ported boxes need to be bigger than sealed boxes to tune the port at as low a frequency as possible. You do gain a couple db at the tuned frequency, and in a parametric curve around that freqency too. Much lower than the tuned frequency though and the woofer acts unloaded, like its not even in a box. Very dangerous for rap heads.
Small sealed are the most accurate. But people who install 15's in their trunk are not likely to care about accuracy as much as the big boom, so my advice is:
Either build the box as big as required (you can gain about 10% stuffing with polyfil) or get smaller woofers. Big woofers in small boxes sound honky and unnatural on big bass songs, I have heard 10's in properly ported boxes that would just FLOOR you.
