i have a 92 dakota and just bought the autoloc suicide door kit. but it doesn't look like its gonna work because the door jamb is to wide. has anyone installed one of these on there dakota before and how much customizing was done?

What do you mean the door jamb is too wide you mount the buckets where you want, just make sure when you mount them you make it as far as possible to the outer skin of the truck that will determin how far your door will swing open.

maybe i'm looking at this wrong but if i mount the bucket to teh outter skin of the truck then when the door is closed the jam won't be flush

www.suicidedoors.com has a great step by step on how to install suicide hinges. there is an extensive amount of fabrication and modifications to make them work. you have to mount the buckets as far apart as possible and they have to be perfectlly in line and the hinge pivot point has to be as close to the outer skin of the B piller as possible. there is no such thing as having a door jam taht is to wide. you have to make it work and it is completly different on every vehicle, and mtmcalli autoloc makes more than door poppers know one needs you posting if you dont know what you are talking about.

yes i did it!!!! anyways i know that the position of the hinge is a lil far over but you see what i mean with where the arm that mounts to the inside of the door ends up.

looks like you're positioning that in all the wrong places be careful i don't want to get you down but suiciding doors are a lot of fab work not sure how much metal working experience you've got under your belt but try hooking up w/ local shops like PMA Motorsports in Warren on Mound Rd and 15 mile. Paul or Carl are real cool guys talk to them or local car clubs etc.

if you are saying that the door will be deaper then the pocket that you have to weld into it that the arm bolts to then all you have to do is extend that pocket with the same gauge metal. I have done it many times to make them work on deeper doors. i put the metal on top of the door pocket about a 1/2" from the back clamp it and weld it up solid. simple and works great.
