was curious how much of a body drop is required to get below the front crossmember, i did a 2.5" body drop on my truck and w/ the engine i just put in the oil pan flush w/ the bottom of the crossmember. i was going to section the pan but the oil pump is only 1/2" from the bottom. and the engine sticks past my hood about 3" so and i am about maxed out w/ clearence on the trans tunnel oh i did eliminate the pinch on the cab also let me know what you guys think cause i cant tell if it is going to lay body or pan??

if your oil pan is flush with your front crossmember- you ar in trouble- you are going to bend the poop out of your oil pan and most likely puncture it. Every time you accelerate you engine is going to move with rubber motor mounts and that will be it.

uhh, so your motor stuck out of the hood a 1/2 inch from the factory?

With a 2.5 inch body drop there is no need to drop the engine at all if you get rid of the stock air cleaner (using a pacesetter header gets rid of the exhaust air injection tubes)

You are really screwed, because the bottom of the factory crossmember is actually lower than the rest of the frame. A 2.5" body drop will lay rocker (not pinch, rocker) IF you drag the front crossmember a scootch to make the crossmember even with the frame.

So raise the motor back up. If you body dropped without raising the tranny tunnel, you will have to do that as well. I did not have to raise my tranny tunnel because I dropped the tail of the tranny about 3/4 and have some sexy mounts dwayno from Homo State Univeristy gave me that drop my engine a 1/2. But my engine cleared my hood with my 2.5 stock floor, in part because my intake sticks out the side of my motor.

no i am not running the 2.2 engine anymore i wanted something alittle more dependable and pratical, so i am going w/ a injected 3.0 flex fuel engine.. i didnt mean to confuse u.. how many inches to lay flat?? if i have to i prolly can raise the engine up a lil more, but its already looking like i am going to have to make one hell of a cowl hood...i will have to remeasure what my body drop is cause all i did was fold over pinch and set 2x4s across frame and cut and let the cab fall on the boards. also this engine is not going to move much i made my own motor mounts they are not solid but stiffer than any mount i have ever seen!

i have already done the body drop i just need to know if i need to raise my engine or do another body drop to have my body lower than the front crossmember, HOW MANY INCHES TO LAY ROCKER AND FLAT W/OUT DRAGGING THE FRONT X-MEMBER OFF???
dssur   +1y
3 inches to lay rocker without dragging the front crossmember, but then the truck lays out with a ghetto lean, from front to back, because the rear of the truck can get lower than the front.

I dont understand how your engine is that tall, its probably just a low oil pan or the sump area is over the crossmember instead of in front of/behind it. You can section the oil pan AND the pickup tube and probably get some room back.

no i cant section the oilpan i already took it off and checked it out my pickup tube is only 1/4" lower than the pump or whatever it is hanging down there i dont even know y this engine has a pickup tube. and i do not have the front crossmember in right now cause the oil pan is in the way so i am going to modify a xmember that goes around the pan but right now the bottom of the pan is sitting right flush w/ the xmember brackets. i always thought they laid nice and flat if you were past the xmember and didnt if you werent???
