i was on the freeway going about 70 trying to accelerate and my truck just quit accelerating so i let off the gas and it backfired and blew the muffler off and stated running sloppy so i replaced the muffler this weekend and it started fine it idles fine but when accelerating it shakes the whole truck and sounds really choppy when at speed it maintains and runs fine when i down shift its fine just a problem when i give it any gasany suggestions?

Sounds like it could be some sort of a misfire, but since it idles smooth probably not.

Check the sensor that plugs into the intake tube (I believe it is the air temperature sensor). When it comes off the truck will run badly when you give it gas, but usually wont let you get up to speed.

I would check all your sensors.

i tried pulling off all the sensors and put them back on and checked the vacuum hoses they all seem to be fine

Seriously, check to make sure ALL of you r plugs are tight. I had that happen to me on my 95 Dime 2.2 . I ended up taking it to the dealer ( didn't have time because of work to do it myself), and the charged me friggin 85 bucks to hook it too a computer. Just to tell me a plucg had loosened up .

i had the same thing happen on my 94 s10....i would defenatly check the catylitic converter....that was the problem on mine because the insides start to dicenegrate and it will cause all kinds of weird things to happen

I doubt its your cat. If it has anything to do with your cat, its probably your oxygen sensor.

But the cats do start to break up at around 90K - 100K. Happened on my old 98 Dime.

By the time you find out what it is, you might have already spend $150+. It might be worth it to take it to your local mechanic and have it hooked up to the computer for $85.
