i got a 97 did the same thing cant figer out what it is but i have hooked it up to the computer and said it was the oxgen sensor in the manifod but i unpluged it to see if it rain the same are worse it rain worse soo it cant be that any one alse have any ideas??o i have no cat it rain fine with out it for the last 2 years

my fullsize did somthing similar and it was a fuel delivery problem but check your cap and rotor make sure everything is cool and then go from there

my explorer was doing the same thing and it turned out to be the wires and i just replaced them the week before. but check the converter, ohm the wires and check the fuel filter. i had saturn do the same thing with the converter and my grandparent's honda just did that last week with the fuel filter.

thats redundant

Check the plugs, and the fuel filter. Everyone forgets those two when looking into drivability issues. A cracked plug will run poor and not accelerate, a fuel filter the same, and neither will trip a check engine light.

if none of the suggestions above help you try looking between the head and the fire wall there is a wiring harness that can be melted if that is not the problem the ignition module is going bad it is what the coils bolt to on the bottom passenger side of the block
