well, thats partly true. But if you set up your new rails to be as low as the front crossmember, you gain at least inch of body drop. It's tough to explain in words, but I did the same on my Mazda sfbd and got 2.5 inches of bd even though the original frame was just under 5 inches tall and I used 3x2. A more accurate way to measure for sfbd is to use a tape measure to measure from the bottom of the floor to the bottom of the rockers, that will tell you what size tubing will fit, on a toyota I think its like just under 3.5 inches.
A friend Ryan Z'd his toyota first and then traditional bd'd it, and with just over 2 inches of bd (like 2 1/8? 2 1/4? its been so long haha) he lays rocker. He has WAAAAY more headroom than I ever did, methinks my seats were too high.
But sfbd>tbd , I've owned 4 tbd and one sfbd and I will never ever ever ever go back to tbd.
I am completely aware of this Russ. I modified my stock frame to sit flat, so that with exactly 2" of body drop I lay rocker. My frame is 4 1/8" tall. So basically, if I were to stock floor it under the cab, I would have about a 7/8" body drop to lay rocker. It just wasn't worth all the extra time to me, if I still had to go traditional.
And for the guy that started the thread, definitely Z the frame or section the front crossmember to lay flat before body dropping. Its a 3" body drop to the rocker, versus a 2 1/4" or whatever it is Zd.
