the exhoust from ur car is oxygen free thats why it would be impossible for anythng to catch fire. and i did'nt say to weld with the exhoust goin just the cutting part. and the only reason i did this is because it is what i read on a hotrod.com forum i figured they have prolly done it a few more times than me.

RLSN, i got a gas tank from a junkyard that does'nt have the pump, so i'm going to do all the work with the bare tank, and i've heard you can mod the fuel pump to fit back in (i think you just shorten the intake pipe). Thanks for the more info, josey and kevin. Preciate the help.

if im not mistaken the 99s have a plastic tank so i dont think putting a torch in there is a great idea go get a 94-97 metal tank

the plastic tank is not common equipment, trucks as new as 03/04 have metal tanks, but some can have plastic.

my question is if u take 3" out of the whole height of the gas tank, what fuel pump are u gonna use?? cuz i dont think the stock pump will fit back in..

thats a good question... although im sure you could rig up an inline pump.

When i sectioned my fullsize tank and inch and a half, i just shortend in intake tube, very easy. I also chopped the corner off the tank to clear the upper 4 link bars. Its a very good mod to do, if you dont do something it could easily cost you your truck.

Dwight, yes that's what i'm doing. I can't lay frame in the back because the gas tank sits on top of the track bar. The first time i layed it out, the bar bent the tank around it, and now i can't get it to clear. I got a tank from a junkyard and was going to section that corner so it would clear, so i figured if i'm cutting on it i might as well section it to get ready for the bodydrop that will happen in a few years.

Not to change the subject of sectioning a tank, but has anyone looked into what Devious Customs is selling one of these for?

chris, i emailed them asking for some info (price, what comes with it, etc.) a couple of weeks ago, have not heard back from them yet.
